This page covers the build of my 1969 Volvo 142s.  I will update this every so often, but I'm no english major and half of the time it will be thoughts pieced together in the middle of the night so excuse any awkward sentences or detached ideas or run on sentences like this one.

Ouch. I can't believe I let this project be put on hold for so long. Fortunately in the meantime I've sourced a great motor for this car. I have plenty of parts now, just need some space and time to work.

An assload of sweet parts are ready to go on the car.  I just have to find time to get it done.

The Volvo Project has been put on hold temporarily while I work on a car for this summer's demolition derby.

Here are some pics of the 142:

The rear tires are 225/60R15 in order to put down all that power.  I think the stock tires are 165 or 175.

the car: Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting I picked up the motor for the car last month. 92k miles and in good shape for $225. It came with a Volvo K cam installed, shimmed and ready to go. No exhaust manifold or turbo, but I got a free b230f intake manifold that will make the hrottle body line up with the cold side of the intercooler (which I don't have yet). This motor will need custom motor mounts to fit in the 142 engine bay. Normally, the b21ft is mounted slanted in the 240T it came in, but I will be mounting it straight like the b20 that's in the engine bay now. This way I'll be able to bolt it up to the transmission. I got my injectors in the mail today. Thanks Pete! Once I get these puppies cleaned and tested they'll flow 46 lb/hr with a 3 bar fpr or 52 lb/hr with a turbo dodge 4 bar fpr. The Car
The engine that is in the car is a 2.0L OHV dual carb 4 cylinder motor producing an astonishing 90 peak horsepower.  The motor has about 230000 miles, but the 4 speed M40 transmission was recently rebuilt.  Power 4 wheel disc brakes.  The paint is alright, but there is virtually no rust on the car.  The interior shows its age.  I will have pictures soon.

Some Info:
 Volvo 142S
 2 door sedan
 Front engine, rear wheel drive
 2.0L OHV 4cyl
 Dual Carb.
 Standard 4 sp. trans.
Dual A arm front susp.; trailing arm rear susp.
 4 wheel disc brakes
Power brakes, manual steering, no A/C

The Plan
This car is my daily driver, but I am not content with the power it puts down.  I would also like to learn about installing aftermarket fuel mangement.  The motor will be a volvo b21ft 2.1L turbocharged 4 cyl.  This motor will be intercooled and use megasquirt.  It will be mated to the M40 4 speed that is already in the car, although this will require some fabrication of engine mounts to get the engine tilted vertically (the b21ft is slanted in the 240T in came in).  I am still thinking about what to do about the rear end, as I don't think it will last with this motor.  Volvo 164's had a stronger rear end (I think) that I hope to find to use on the 142.  The 164 also had better brakes in the front that I will use if I can find a 164 donor car.

I have some Bilstein HD shocks that are going on the front.  At some point I'll have enough for some sport springs and bilsteins in the back.

Eventually the car will be repainted in light blue that some of these cars came in.  I also hope to source a volvo 850 for leather seats (I heard that 850 rear seats fit in place of 240 rear seats.   Hopefully they'll fit in my 142.)  It will also get 242 doors to get rid of the wing windows (they suck).

I am on a tight budget for this car, so the project may be put on hold for a few weeks at a time.  I hope to be driving the car by the end of this summer (although the way most of my projects go I'll be lucky to have it half sone by this time next year).

I'm going to have to come up with a name for this project.  I'm thinking: "The Metal Slug"
